By the time I landed in Zanzibar I felt like a real stranger in a strange land. It was absolutely beautiful but it felt almost unattainable to really connect with the people there. During one of the sunsets, some local boys were climbing atop an old cargo ship and jumping off the side. It reminded me of my own childhood summers on Lake Michigan, jumping off sand dunes into the water. I sat and watched them leap, again and again, for close to an hour. It made me feel like we weren’t so different after all.
